"The detective work in the conservation of our architectural past is as exciting as the unearthing of any lost civilization. Taking the scattered physical evidence left to us by those who are gone and gathering it together into a cohesive whole allows us to see and touch a shadowed past otherwise lost to us."

Building Arts & Conservation offers more than 40 years of combined experience in the fields of conservation and historic preservation. Our Conservators, Specialists and Technicians possess a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience which allows us to undertake even the most challenging preservation projects with confidence.

Whether it is wood, metals, masonry, stone, glass, paint, plaster, mosaics, fine art, monument or sculpture, Building Arts & Conservation can provide comprehensive planning and treatments for preservation projects of all sizes and scope. We also collaborate and consult with other preservation professionals and experts as appropriate to fit our client's needs for research, design, materials analysis, specialized fabrication, or materials solutions.

Ron Koenig | Architectural Conservator and Owner

Ron Koenig began his conservation career in 1988 as an artisan working on the restoration of Michigan’s State Capitol with John Canning & Company and later under painting conservator Darla Olson.  This project inspired Ron’s interest in preserving historic buildings and he subsequently added a Master of Science from University of Pennsylvania in Architectural Conservation to his BA in History from the University of Michigan and BA in English from the University of Detroit.  He has since worked on the restoration and conservation of several important buildings, including the Wisconsin State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Avery Coonley House, the Midland County Courthouse and Meadow Brook Hall. He also served for several years as the Director of Building Conservation at Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village before creating his own company, Building Arts and Conservation (BAC).  The work of conserving and restoring historic buildings has allowed BAC to lead a diverse range of important projects at many facilities in the Midwest region including the restoration of Lansing’s historic Turner Dodge House (1858), Albert Kahn’s Detroit Athletic Club (1916), and multiple buildings at the University of Michigan.

Terri Sibo-Koenig | COO and Partner/Owner

Terri Sibo-Koenig works mostly behind the scenes, using her extensive project management and administrative experience to keep the projects on-time, on-task and on-budget.  She also  lends her artistic skills to projects, administers the website and is often our client's first point of contact.  Having worked for 12 years at the Henry Ford Museum, being entrenched as an owner/partner in a preservation business is second nature and a passion that extends into her community service where she is currently the Chair of the Saline Historic District Commission and a board member for the Saline Area Historical Society.  She has also served two terms as a City Councilwoman for the City of Saline and volunteers often with Saline Main Street and other community organizations.

Kristin Bartlett, Conservation Specialist

Kristin Bartlett joined Building Arts & Conservation in 2017 and has immediately become an indispensable asset to the business.  She earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (concentration in Metalsmithing), along with a major in Anthropology and a History minor, followed by a Master of Science in Historic Preservation at Eastern Michigan University.  As a seasonal conservation technician with the Central Park Conservancy in New York City, Kristin honed her technical skills, worked as part of a team, and took the lead, when needed, to complete the project on time.  Her attention to detail and fine handwork through the use of many art and preservation tools is outstanding.  Because she believes art and architecture and their preservation for future generations to experience and enjoy is incredibly important, Kristin brings to table a true passion and love for the work we do.
